Its been a while...

I need to keep more up to date with my blog. I've just ordered some new Alienbee lighting and I'm excited to get out there and start using them. I've been using speedlights up until now so the extra juice will be really nice.

Happy Birthday Erin

I had a fun time photographing Erin's family and friends last night as they celebrated Erin's 30th birthday at a little club in Seattle. People came from all over for the celebrations including her sister from NY and her soon to be sister-in-law came all the way from London. It was a great time! I'll be posting a couple videos I took also later on so be sure to come back and check them out. Other photos from Erin's birthday can be seen by clicking here.

Happy Birthday Erin!

Iana Klenz's Birthday Party

Happy Birthday Iana!

Last night was Iana Klenz's birthday party. Iana is CEO of En Mode Models Network and she's also a professional model. My buddy Dave and I had a lot of fun photographing the party for Iana. We were also able to meet a lot of very nice people!

I also did a little video taping so hopefully I can figure out how to post some video footage! Here are a couple photos from the party. All of the photos can be seen at my website under the Event Photos tab.

Rebekah's Photoshoot

I was able to work with a new model today. Her name is Rebekah and she was very professional. I enjoyed working with her and we had a fun shoot. We even had a rainbow popout for us to get a few shots of. I just purchased a new Quantum flash I was hoping to use on this shoot but I found out I did not have any cables to connect it to my wireless Pocket Wizard radios. The shoot went well anyways.

Happy Mothers Day

I hope all of the mothers out there had a wonderful Mother's Day! The Kirkland 1/2 Marathon Race took place yesterday in Kirkland and I helped photograph the event. What a beautiful day for a race. I was using my Canon 5D Mark II for this event with my Canon 70-200 2.8 IS lens.

I want to say Happy Mothers Day Kimberly, Shirley, Marlys, Linda and Sherry and also to all of you other mothers out there!

My First Blog

Welcome to my Blog. I am a Seattle area photographer based out of Federal Way, Wa. I shoot all types of events from weddings, portraits, sports, fashion shows and events.

First of all I want to thank my beautiful wife Kimberly for putting up with all of my long hours on the computer and behind the camera. Kimberly is one of the hardest working people I know and she does so much for our family (and puts up with a lot from me!). She is my best friend, my partner and my bride. God could not have given me anyone better than her. Sometimes I feel sorry for her that she ended up with me but God must have known that she could handle it.

A little about me. I am a building designer and I own Brookes Design, Inc. Brookes Design, Inc. is a small one man office and I specialise in residential design. Last year the real estate business here in the Seattle area (and every where else) really slowed down which gave me a lot more time to get behind the camera. I used my camera to start to do some architectural photography for some of my builder clients to try to keep some income coming in. In doing that I discovered that I had a talent for photography but more so I developed a passion for it. I have always enjoyed the arts, drawing, painting and anything creative. I even took a cake decorating class with my wife and sister-in-law once.

Another one of my attributes, that I get from my dad, is that I'm an entrepreneur. If I find something I like (and I like a lot of things!) I always think, "How could I make some money with this?". We'll here I am again trying to find my place in this world as a professional photographer. The thing about photography is that it has become a passion for me. I love it and everything that goes with it. In order to be a photographer now days you also need to be a computer geek and an artist. I just love computers and technology. I've never been a great artist but I've always enjoyed drawing and painting. You get to do all of that now as a part of photography! I spend more time in photoshop editing and manipulating images than behind the camera. That is just as fun as taking the photos!

What makes a photograph really good is composition and lighting. Lighting and the art of lighting is what I really love about photography. Anyone can take a good picture but to know how to light the subject is what really makes a photo go from ordinary to extraordinary. That is why lighting to me is the most important part of photography and its something I want to master.

One of my newest pieces of gear includes the new Canon 5D Mark II. This camera is absolutely spectacular and I'm so excited to be using it now. One of the really cool features on this camera is its ability to shoot Hi Def 1080P video. With this I'm going to start to include some video along with my still photography combined and what some people are calling Fusion.

I hope you follow me through this ever changing art of photography. I'll be posting some photos from shoots, talking about shoots and ideas, gear, lighting, software and anything related to photography. Feel free to comment or contact me with any questions.

Sincerely,
Rick Ehrenberg
